Description
From award-winning British documentary maker Nick Broomfield, Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer looks at Aileen’s violent, tortured childhood in Troy, Michigan and her subsequent years on the road as a hitch-hiking prostitute which culminated in the murders. In her last interview, conducted by Broomfield at Aileen’s request, she said she believed her mind was being controlled by radio waves. On October 9th 2002 she was executed in Florida. Charlize Theron won the 2004 Oscar for Best Actress for her portrayal of Wuornos in the film 'Monster'. ‘Shocking and indispensable viewing’ - Rolling Stone. Terrific. It’s an extraordinary document: astonishing, tragic, gutting, and terribly funny in the most ghastly way’ - The Times. ‘I was moved and impressed. If the earlier film indicted a system corrupted by money and media speculation, this one exposed a wider social neglect and abuse. Broomfield’s rapport with Aileen – if I can call it that – really paid off, she’s a tragic figure’ - Time Out.
